After dismantling their aging secondary property, Angèle and Michel partnered with us to draft the custom house plans and manage the construction of this new waterfront sanctuary. Their vision was to build a high-quality, healthy, and energy-efficient eco-home that seamlessly integrates into its tranquil lakeside setting. Designed to host family gatherings and entertain friends, the low-maintenance property features a distinctive modern design. The exterior showcases a unique mix of sustainable vertical and horizontal siding, creating a sophisticated and eye-catching architectural silhouette.
Upon entering, a spacious storage area sits to your left, while the first of three bedrooms rests to your right. The layout quickly unfolds into an open-concept living space offering breathtaking panoramic views of Lake Champlain. Flooded with natural light through massive energy-efficient windows, the main floor exudes warmth and comfort, complete with a full bathroom, a mechanical room, and a 413 sq. ft. double garage accessible from the kitchen. Upstairs, two additional bedrooms share a large bathroom alongside a dedicated home gym and a sun-filled yoga studio positioned right over the garage. This healthy, low-maintenance lakefront home initially serves as a serene weekend cottage before transitioning into their permanent primary residence: a peaceful oasis built to welcome family, friends, and their two dogs.

How long does it take to build an ecological home?
You should allow a minimum of two months for project planning and at least four months for construction.
However, the time required for construction varies from one house to another (dimensions, finishes, features, etc.), from one lot to another (constraints, access, relief), and even from one city to another (permit issuance period) or from one season to another (weather constraints). Your advisor will give you an overview at the planning stage, and as the start of construction work nears, your construction project manager will give you a schedule. Regular follow-ups will also be carried out throughout the project.
What are the various stages of the project?
The project has three main stages:
- Project analysis: finding a concept that meets your needs and budget. Free of charge, except for the site visit.
- Architectural phase: choosing a plan from our portfolio or creating a customized plan with our architectural department.
- Construction phase.
Is an ecological home more expensive than a standard one?
The extra cost of building an energy-efficient home is estimated at around 4% for the building envelope. However, the energy savings generated are greater than the additional mortgage payment.
The cost of purchasing an ecological home is higher, but the costs associated with its use and maintenance are significantly lower than with a standard home. By buying an ecological home, you’re investing in your health and your future!
